Katy Meaker Menges
Katy Meaker Menges is a community leader and former actress and performer.
Mrs. Menges received a bachelor’s degree with a secondary teaching certification from Texas State. After touring with national theater companies for two years, she joined KRLD Radio in Dallas as a political reporter. In 1984, she became the chair of the Dallas County Young Republicans, leading the largest group of Young Republicans in the country during President Ronald Reagan’s re-election campaign and the Republican convention in Dallas. She was awarded a Presidential Youth Commission to speak to Young Republican groups around the country.
Mrs. Menges left broadcasting to work in the political sector as a campaign advisor and legislative assistant, where she managed or advised on more than a dozen Republican campaigns in four years. She served as Vice President of Public Affairs for the National Center for Policy Analysis as Vice President of Public Affairs, and she has held executive positions in several nonprofit organizations.
Now retired from full-time professional work, Mrs. Menges serves as an accredited Texas State One-Act Play Judge and conducts acting workshops for Texas high schools. She is a trustee of the Dallas Theater Center and serves on its Education Committee. A graduate of the FBI's Citizen's Academy, she was the first woman to chair the North Texas Crime Commission. She is a former president of the Press Club of Dallas and a recipient of several of the Press Club's Lucifer Awards.
Mrs. Menges is active in the Library of Congress Madison Council, The Dallas Theater Center, Dallas Assembly, Leadership Dallas, Junior League of Dallas, Dallas Rotary Club, A.W.A.R.E., The Episcopal School of Dallas, and her church. She and her husband J. Kenneth Menges, Jr., Managing Partner of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, L.L.P., were recently honored with a Leadership Dallas "35 Years of Heroes" award, from the Dallas Chamber of Commerce.
