Spring 2007 Liberal Arts Graduation Ceremony set for May 11

April 2007—Graduate and undergraduate students in Liberal Arts will receive degrees during the College of Liberal Arts Commencement ceremony Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum.  Louie Deán Valencia, dual major in European Studies and Spanish, will be the student Commencement speaker (see below). No tickets are required for admission to the ceremony. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

 Candidates for graduation in Liberal Arts are asked to arrive at Strahan Coliseum by 6 p.m. Friday, May 11, in order to receive their candidate cards and to line up for the processional. Undergraduates should report to Jowers Gym 101 and graduates to Jowers Gym 102. About Louie Deán Valencia: At Texas State, Mr. Valencia has held several editorial positions on the University Star newspaper and won awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for web design and sports photography. He has also worked on student publications of the Mitte Honors Program and the Texas Special Olympics Summer Games, and served as research assistant to Dr. Don Olson in Physics.  He is the recipient of two Mitte Honors Thesis Grants, a Mitte Honors Scholarship, and the Roberto A. Galván Scholarship in the Department of Modern Languages. He is on the National Dean's List and the Texas State Dean's List and is a member of the Mitte Honor Student Association, Sigma Iota Rho—Honours International Studies Club, International Studies Club, Golden Key National Honor Association, and the Special Olympics of Texas.  He has published articles in national publications and made presentations at national professional conferences.  In fall 2007, he will begin doctoral studies in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, where he will expand upon his Honors thesis work on youth slang in the study of sociolinguistics and European youth cultural movements.
