About Louie Deán Valencia: At Texas State, Mr. Valencia has held several editorial positions on the University Star newspaper and won awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association for web design and sports photography. He has also worked on student publications of the Mitte Honors Program and the Texas Special Olympics Summer Games, and served as research assistant to Dr. Don Olson in Physics. He is the recipient of two Mitte Honors Thesis Grants, a Mitte Honors Scholarship, and the Roberto A. Galván Scholarship in the Department of Modern Languages. He is on the National Dean's List and the Texas State Dean's List and is a member of the Mitte Honor Student Association, Sigma Iota Rho—Honours International Studies Club, International Studies Club, Golden Key National Honor Association, and the Special Olympics of Texas. He has published articles in national publications and made presentations at national professional conferences. In fall 2007, he will begin doctoral studies in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain, where he will expand upon his Honors thesis work on youth slang in the study of sociolinguistics and European youth cultural movements.
