Anthony Villanacci to be Student Commencement Speaker in December 2008

Anthony Villanacci, a History major with minors in Art and Design and Honors studies, will be Student Commencement Speaker at graduation ceremonies for Liberal Arts and General Studies in December 2008.

Villanacci was named the Outstanding Undergraduate in History in 2007 and 2008, and he was nominated as the Outstanding Undergraduate in Liberal Arts in 2007 and 2008. He was also nominated as the Undergraduate Student Worker of the Year. He is a member of Golden Key International Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Phi Sigma Honor Society, the Texas State Fine Arts Students Association, and the University Honors Student Association.  He has maintained a 4.0 gradepoint average throughout his college career.

He is also a Texas State Associated Student Government Senator, publicity coordinator for the Mitte Honors Program, and a member of two committees of the Common Experience.

In 2008, Villanacci won first place in a painting competition during the Texas State Multicultural Student Affairs 23rd Annual MLK Commemoration Celebration.  He has shown his work at the Walker Gallery in the San Marcos Activity Center and in the Common Experience Gallery on campus.

An active volunteer, Villanacci is a volunteer firefighter in Austin, and he has volunteered with the University Honors Leadership Retreat, Bobcat Build, the American Cancer Society, and Meals on Wheels.
