Summer 2008 Graduation Ceremony Aug. 8:
Student Commencement Speaker will be Ruth Correa

August 2008—Graduate and undergraduate students in Liberal Arts will receive degrees during the College of Liberal Arts Commencement ceremony Friday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m. in Strahan Coliseum.  Ruth Correa, graduating with a B.A. in International Studies, will be the Student Commencement Speaker (see below).  No tickets are required for admission to the ceremony.  Seating is on a first come, first served basis.

Candidates for graduation in Liberal Arts are asked to arrive at Strahan Coliseum by 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in order to receive their candidate cards and to line up for the processional.  All students should report to Jowers Gym 102.  The Commencement schedule, instructions for graduating students, and information on speakers, parking, handicapped accessibility, and more is available by visiting Texas State's Commencement web site.

About Ruth Correa

Ms. Correa, from Dallas, will graduate magna cum laude with a degree in International Studies and a minor in Social Work. 

She grew up in a family of three girls and seven boys.  She is the first in her family to attend a four-year college, and she has been on the Dean’s List three of her four years at Texas State.  She is a member of Golden Key Honor Society and Phi Eta Sigma.  She has been a residential assistant, organizing socials, educational workshops, and fundraisers.  She has also volunteered at the Rivercrest Nursing Home and for Disaster Relief after Hurricane Katrina.

Ms. Correa will apply to attend graduate school at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. She hopes to work abroad, helping disaster victims.
