Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies to honor 11 outstanding women Feb. 29


January 2008—The Center for Multicultural and Gender Studies will honor 11 outstanding women during an awards luncheon Friday, Feb. 29. The event, titled “Celebrating the Creative Expressions of Women,” will honor Texas State employees and alumnae, 12-1:30 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom. Luncheon tickets, $10 each, are available to the public by contacting the Center at MCGS@txstate.edu.

Employees to be honored include Dr. Roseann Mandziuk, Professor, Department of Communication Studies; Jonnie Wilson, Assistant Director, Multicultural Student Affairs; Allana Welsh, graduate student in Biology; and Brittany Leigh Patton, undergraduate student in Criminal Justice/Psychology.

Alumnae honorees include Vanessa Victoria Valdez, B.S. Criminal Justice 2006; Christine R. Griffith, B.B.A. Accounting 1991; Yolanda Almendarez, B.S. Education 1969; Katie Harvey, B.S. Journalism 1991; Shawn McCormick, B.S. Health Education 1985; Diane Hirsch, B.A. Political Science 1982; Tyra Montgomery, B.S. Chemistry 1981 and M.S. Chemistry 1984.

Katy Harvey (B.S. Journalism 1991) will also give the keynote address. Harvey is President and CEO of KGB Texas, a multi-million dollar public relations, advertising, and marketing agency in San Antonio.

Performers, from the College of Fine Arts and Communication, will include a guitar trio and a women’s choir. An exhibit of art by faculty and students will be on display.
