March 26: Discussion on "Trials and triumphs of women in popular music"
Four women—two historians and two performers—will discuss "Women in Popular Music: Trials and Triumphs" Wednesday, March 26, 7-9 p.m. in Taylor Murphy History Building room 104.
The program will focus on the historical experiences of women as singers/songwriters and band leaders/members in the world of popular music. Two historians, Sherrie Tucker and Diane Pecknold, will provide the historical context, while two performers, Marcia Ball and Barbara Lynn, will speak about barriers and breakthroughs on the road to success.
The event, sponsored by the Department of History and the Center for Texas Music History, is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be offered following the discussion.
