Can undergraduate students graduate with honors from Texas State? Yes, a student can graduate with Texas State honors as long as a student completes 60 undergraduate hours at Texas State and meets the GPA criteria for the designated honors: Cum laude (3.40-3.59) , magna cum laude (3.60-3.79), and summa cum laude (3.80-4.00) are awarded.
When does the College of Liberal Arts receive the final grades? This depends on the semester and whether you are completing courses at Texas State, transferring course work from another school, or completing a course(s) by Texas State correspondence. If you are completing your final coursework at Texas State, during the Fall and Spring semesters we normally receive the final
grades the Friday morning of graduation. During the summer sessions, we normally do not get the second summer session grades until the week after graduation. Transfer work depends on when the final transcript is received by our Admissions Office and work is posted to the Texas State transcript. Correspondence final grades depend on when the final was completed and final grade has been posted.
Where do I get the cap and gown for graduation? Contact the Texas State Bookstore in the LBJ Student Center.
How long is the ceremony? The ceremony lasts about 1 1/2 hours.
Does the College of Liberal Arts give out tickets for guests to attend the graduation ceremony? The ceremony is free and open to the public and no tickets are required for admission.
Is there a limit to the number of guests each student can invite to the ceremony? Not at this time.
During the ceremony, are students' names announced in alphabetical order or by major? We do not separate the undergraduate students by major. Students are announced in alphabetical order by last name as listed on the “application for graduation.” This means that if you applied for graduation under a different name than what is on your official Texas State records, you will line up under that name and not your name of record.
Do I get my diploma at the graduation ceremony? No, during the graduation ceremony you are presented with a diploma cover and if all requirements are met for graduation, your diploma is mailed about 4-6 weeks after the ceremony.
What are the dimensions of the diplomas? 11 x 14 inches
