All bachelor’s degrees require a minimum of 128 semester hours, including 40 advanced hours. Many degrees can be planned to include teacher certification. Bachelor of Arts candidates must select a minor from the list of undergraduate minors in Liberal Arts or from another discipline within the University. In certain degree programs, the College of Liberal Arts requires that additional courses be taken in English, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and modern languages.  Read more about additional degree requirements.

Freshman and transfer students at Texas State also take a course titled University Seminar, which teaches the skills and concepts that promote academic success, life-long learning, and respect for a diversity of issues and ideas.
Freshman and transfer students also participate in the Common Experience, a year-long initiative designed to cultivate a common intellectual conversation across the campus, to enhance student participation in the campus' intellectual life, and to foster a sense of community on campus and beyond.
