University Seminar and Common Experience
All freshman and transfer students at Texas State take a course titled University Seminar.  The course teaches skills and concepts that promote academic success, life-long learning, and respect for a diversity of issues and ideas.
Freshmen and transfer students also participate in the Common Experience, a year-long initiative designed to cultivate a common intellectual conversation across the campus, to enhance student participation in the campus' intellectual life, and to foster a sense of community on campus and beyond. Common Experience topics have included "The Water Planet," "Protest and Dissent," "Courage," and "Hate."
