Dr. Ann Marie Ellis, Dean

Dr. Ann Marie Ellis, Dean of Liberal ArtsDr. Ellis, who was named Dean of the College of Liberal Arts in October 2000, is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the College - its students, faculty, administrators, staff, and programs. She also works with alumni and friends of the College to find ways that their interests can support the College's programs.

Dr. Ellis earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Florida and her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. She has taught in Florida public schools and at the University of Florida. In Dallas, she developed a successful minority outreach program in Sociology for the Community College District. At Texas State, Dr. Ellis helped to develop the applied internship program for the Department of Sociology. Between 1989 and 1995, Dr. Ellis received more than $3 million in federal, state, and foundation grants related to substance abuse prevention and foster care. As a result of that work, Dr. Ellis produced fourteen videotapes, eight of which have been distributed nationally through the Child Welfare League of America. Funds generated from the sale of these tapes have created a permanent endowment for scholarships to Texas State students who have been in foster care. Dr. Ellis also served as Associate Dean of Liberal Arts, and she has chaired the President's Task Force on Diversity.
