Internship in Public Administration—POSI 4381
Students majoring in the
Bachelor of Public Administration degree program are required to take POSI 4381, "Internship in Public Administration." With the instructor's approval, the course is open to any interested student, regardless of major, who has completed 60 hours and has a GPA of 2.25+.
Students enrolled in this 3-credit-hour course are responsible for seeking out internship opporunities in their specific area of interest. Students complete a research paper on a topic related to their internship and present their finds orally at the final. The goal is for students to apply what they've learned in the classroom to their work experiences during the internship.
Although some internship opportunities are available in offices on campus, most are off-campus. In the past, students have held internships in the city governments of San Marcos, Austin, and San Antonio; in the offices of County Commissioners, District Attorneys, and Victim Services; in the Texas Attorney General's office; and in government offices in Washington, D.C.
