Edward M. Sinclair From remarks by Dr. Ann Marie Ellis,
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts:
The Outstanding Undergraduate Student in Liberal Arts, Edward M. Sinclair, has been on the Dean's List every semester since he enrolled at Texas State in Fall 2003, to study for a B.S. in Applied Sociology with a minor in English. Edward's transfer GPA from Tarrant County College is 4.00, and his Texas State GPA is 3.97; that is, he has made only one B during his university studies. Furthermore, he has held a responsible part-time job each semester, always taken a full course load, and been involved in extracurricular activities as well.
This year Edward has served as a Senator on Associated Student Government, where he demonstrated his understanding of the place of debate and argument, co-authoring significant legislation related to civil rights. He represented Sociology on the Dean's Liberal Arts Student Advisory Council, where his observations about campus issues were always thoughtful, perceptive, and well received by other Council members. In addition, he held the office of treasurer in Mu Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In sum, Edward is an effective leader with outstanding interpersonal skills, whether he is part of a large or small group.
In nominating him for Outstanding Undergraduate, his Department Chair wrote, "Mr. Sinclair is the student we all want in our classes. . . . He values education. Let me be more precise: He values knowing."
I am very proud that after graduation in August, Edward plans to pursue graduate studies in Sociology here at Texas State. Today I am delighted to congratulate him on being named the Outstanding Undergraduate in Liberal Arts for 2005-2006.
