Student Commencement Speaker

Nominations, Eligibility, Application Process, and Deadlines

The College of Liberal Arts invites nominations for Student Commencement Speaker. Three times a year, the College forwards the names of two nominees to the Office of the Provost, for the Fall, Spring, and Summer graduation ceremonies.

Nominations: Faculty may nominate students, or students may nominate themselves. In addition, the Outstanding Undergraduate in Liberal Arts, named at Liberal Arts Awards Day each April, is automatically nominated by the College.

Eligibility: Eligible students include

  • undergraduates who are graduating summa cum laude
  • undergraduates who have an overall Texas State GPA of at least 3.0 and who have made significant contributions to their department, to Liberal Arts, or to the University
  • graduate students who have an outstanding record of achievement in academics and/or leadership and service

Note: Nominees must be available to attend an interview with the Selection Committee.

Application Process: Nominees should complete the Nominee Application Form (above) for Student Commencement Speaker, attaching a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, and an unofficial transcript, and submit this packet to the College of Liberal Arts Dean's Office, FH 313. Nomination forms are available online or in FH 313 or by request at (512) 245-2317.

Deadlines: Please contact the College of Liberal Arts Dean's Office for specific application deadlines. E-mail ks02@txstate.edu or phone (512) 245-2317.
