The Dean's Excellence Fund

Ensuring a Strong Student Body and a World-Class Faculty

The Dean's Excellence Fund supported the 2006 International Conference on Race, Ethnicity, and Place, which drew faculty and students to the Texas State campus from more than 100 universities worldwide. Texas State faculty and students joined other scholars in the fields of geography, sociology, economics, history, anthropology, education, literature, business, music, art, and other disciplines in presenting research, hosting discussions, and guiding fieldtrips elucidating the connections between race, ethnicity, and place.
Friends who give to the Dean's Excellence Fund help the College of Liberal Arts to offer students exceptional learning experiences and to build a world-class faculty. Here is how your gift will benefit faculty and students:

Creating Student Opportunities. Gifts to the Dean's Excellence Fund provide funds for special symposia, for scholarly research and presentation by students, and for other educational experiences beyond the classroom. These opportunities enlarge our students' understanding of world issues and prepare them for life and leadership beyond the University. Many of the students who participate in these experiences are first-generation college students in need of financial assistance. Our goal is to ensure that such opportunities are available to each major in the College of Liberal Arts.

Building a World-Class Faculty. Many of our faculty are developing international reputations through their fine scholarship. Increasingly, the College needs to supplement faculty travel funds to present their work at national and international conferences. In addition, many very creative faculty have special needs for research equipment and support not covered by state funds. The production of research adds valuable knowledge and increases the quality and prestige of our academic programs, enabling the College to attract and retain first-class faculty and students.
