1. Approve minutes (9/25/13):
Members unanimously approved the LAC minutes from 25 September 2013.
2. Introduced guests:
All guests were recognized and Jessica Schneider, the new Liberal Arts Research Coordinator, was introduced to the Council.
3. OSP Research Round Table:
Scott Erwin discussed the current research environment and accomplishments at Texas State. He noted that the government shutdown was in effect and having an impact. Any federal proposals should be submitted on time, if possible. New grant software will be coming online soon and training sessions will be planned.
4. Apple Computer:
Dean Hennessy indicated that Apple still wants students for employment. Texas State was the most successful of all the regional universities and Liberal Arts played a big role. Job applications are due in January and students will be hired in February and March. Jobs are 20 hrs/wk with full benefits.
5. Faculty Development Leave Applications:
Faculty must submit applications by October 15.
6. JFK Photograph Exhibit
A photograph exhibit of never-before-seen JFK photos will be in 1st floor of Alkek Library for five weeks.
7. CAD Update:
A new academic advising web page will be online soon. Undergraduate admission are up for 2014. Graduate enrollments are down in the college, with details by program to follow. Administration is concerned about endowment compliance and provided a handout. If there are any questions, contact Kim Garrett. Alcohol purchases are no longer permitted with P-Cards. Dean’s office will oversee revision of degree plans to address changes in the core curriculum. Changes will be made at the department level and sent to Dean Harney in “track changes.”
Around the table:
Beth Erhart discussed trip eligible research donations and the need to channel all donations through the departments and college.
Dan Lochman noted that summer graduate stipends were not approved yet, although summer teaching schedules are due November 12th. This leaves little time for arranging summer schedules.
