1. Graduate scholarship applications:
Nancy Grayson reminded Council members to encourage graduate students applying for Graduate College Scholarships in Liberal Arts to complete all portions of the application form and to include an unofficial transcript. Dr. Grayson will send an email reminder to chairs, directors and graduate advisors.
2. Proposal for MS in Dementia and Aging Studies:
Susan Day distributed and reviewed a proposal to create an online MS in Dementia and Aging Studies. After discussion Council members unanimously approved the proposal.
3. Research Accounts:
Dean Hennessy reminded Council members that account managers should utilize research accounts to fund supplies, salaries, and other activities (such as travel to archives, field-sites, and professional meetings) that support University research.
4. Grant Survey:
Britt Bousman distributed and reviewed a draft research questionnaire designed to gather information from Texas State faculty regarding their experiences working with external grants, contracts, and fellowships. Council members suggested minor revisions. Dr. Bousman will work to incorporate recommendations.
Dean Hennessy briefed Council members on the distinguished alumni who will be honored at this year’s Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards in April. Chairs are encouraged to purchase tables for the event. Liberal Arts outreach and communications officer, Leslie Garrett, will send around the table request form.
6. NEH grant information:
Dean Hennessy distributed information regarding upcoming NEH research grants for faculty and staff in several Liberal Arts disciplines at Hispanic-serving institutions. The deadline to apply for these grants is April 18. Liberal Arts research coordinator, Jessica Schneider (5-1308), is available to assist.
7. Endowment Accounts:
Dean Hennessy reported on the attachment (sent via email to Council members) indicating the status of endowment accounts in Liberal Arts. He will meet with Kimberly Garrett from University Development to identify accounts which may currently fail to meet compliance standards (no MOU on file, inadequate disbursement of funds, etc.).
Council members shared several questions concerning investment protocols as well as distribution policies for endowed funds. Dean Hennessy will follow up with representatives from University development, Bill Kelemen will look into publicly accessible information, and Vicki Brittain and Mary Brennan will consult with current and former members of the Faculty Senate regarding these queries.
Around the Table:
Mary Brennan announced the January 28 visit of Dr. Mai Mosad, Fulbright Occasional Lecturer, from Cairo University.
The meeting was adjourned.
