1.  Approve LAC minutes (1/29/14):

 Council members unanimously approved the LAC minutes from 29 January 2014.  

2.  Visit with Milt Nielsen, AVP Instructional Technologies

Dr. Nielsen distributed a hand-out and updated Council members on current and upcoming ITS activities. Discussion included information related to online technology training for students, faculty, and staff; WordPress websites for faculty, progress with  ePortfolio, the status of SPSS, classroom technology, and development of online courses. 

Bill Kelemen asked about negotiated fees for the Qualtrics survey software currently utilized by several units on campus. Dr. Nielsen will look into this possibility. 

3.   Visit with Beth Wuest, AVP Institutional Effectiveness

Dr. Wuest distributed information and discussed with Council members matters related to SACS assessment, including: 1) the need to demonstrate a data-driven connection between action plans and evidence of continuous improvement in student learning outcomes assessment reports; 2) adherence to SACS requirements for credentials and FTE status of faculty by program, and of faculty who serve as program coordinators; and 3) the upcoming implementation of administrative outcomes for academic programs. 

Chairs are asked to select 2 administrative outcomes by February 14. Beth Wuest and Joe Meyer in Institutional Research will assist in gathering data for these outcomes. 

4.  Catalog changes

Lucy Harney updated Council members on the current cycle of undergraduate catalog edits. Chairs and directors should report additional changes to Lucy by February 7. 

5.  Criteria for Academic Excellence Awards

Council members discussed the best methods for gathering data to determine student eligibility for Liberal Arts Academic Excellence Awards.


Around the Table:

Nancy Grayson announced that she will soon be consulting with chairs to select external reviewers and encourage nominations for the NEH Distinguished Professorship (2015-2018).

Britt Bousman updated Council members on input received from the research funding survey. He will send out another reminder soon.

Council members discussed alternatives to the annual Liberal Arts Awards Ceremony. This item will be slated for a Council meeting in late spring.
