2.  Meeting of Public Policy Research Steering Committee with Attain consulting firm

     representatives:

Dr. Susan Sedwick and Mr. Evan Roberts of the consulting firm, Attain, met with the steering committee exploring the possibility of establishing a public policy research center to be housed in the College of Liberal Arts at Texas State. The steering committee includes all members of the Liberal Arts Council, as well as Honors College Dean Heather Galloway and Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Vicki Brittain, who serves as co-chair with Dean Hennessy.

Dr. Sedwick and Mr. Roberts reviewed the procedures and timeline for conducting their feasibility assessment for the proposed center. They distributed a list of university institutes and centers from around the country with a focus on public policy, and reviewed the data they expect to collect from an environmental scan of these entities.

Steering committee members offered input related to possible goals and priorities for the proposed center. They agreed that students should receive maximum benefit from the center’s activities. They also stressed the importance of adequate funding, and the need to attract a center director who will be dynamic, collaborative, and accessible in coordinating and promoting the center’s initiatives.

Dr. Sedwick and Mr. Roberts will be meeting individually throughout the week with various steering committee members and several other potential stakeholders. They encouraged steering committee members to provide them with any other contacts who might provide useful insight for their evaluation process.

Around the table:

Britt Bousman updated Council members on the progress toward utilizing crowdfunding campaigns at Texas State.

Alberto Giordano announced that the NSF will award substantial funding for research coordination in geography education at Texas State. Details to come.

The meeting was adjourned.
