Dean Brennan will notify chairs about “talking points” being in Points of Pride calls for COLA. She asked chairs to review what she will send and make changes if necessary.
Dr. Kelemen moved and Dr. Grasso seconded approval of the 9.20.17 minutes.
Dean Brennan discussed strategic plan updates for the former strategic plan. She asked that chairs send completed templates by November 15th or earlier. She will send instructions by email.
Chairs who have faculty members interested in teaching upper division courses at RRHEC should forward that information to Dean Brennan. Courses relevant to Health Professions’ courses are more likely to be successful.
Funds will be available for a one-percent merit raise pool. Chairs will make merit-raise recommendations per the usual process.
The provost asks that faculty traveling out of the country specify reasons for their travel plans (i.e., engaging in research by presenting papers or by attending a conference; delivering an invited presentation).
The College has a strong pool of Carnegie Fellow applicants in both junior and senior categories.
Around the table
Dr. Roundtree will examine departments’ curricula to see where their undergraduate research happens. The Council for Funded Research will build undergraduate research into their strategic plan for research. She also asked chairs to encourage faculty members to please use “Faculty Qualifications” for maintaining records of faculty productivity.
Dr. Harney asked about the policy on faculty authored materials.
Dr. Kelemen asked about the status of the sick leave policy. Dean Brennan noted that when faculty members miss classes, meetings, or office hours, they should file a sick leave report. It was decided to not create a form to be used by all departments in the College.
Dr. Hanks circulated a flyer describing the Space Settlement Symposium on October 20, 2017, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom.
Dr. Anderson reminded chairs about Women Entrepreneurship Symposium beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, October 19, in UAC 474, co-sponsored by the Center for Diversity and Gender Studies, Materials Science, Engineering, and Commercialization Program, McCoy College of Business, and the Service-Learning Excellence Program.
Dr. Grasso noted that there will be an open public lecture on October 25, at 12:30 p.m. in Hines 201 given by Gustavo Flores-Macias, Associate Professor of Political Science at Cornell University.
The meeting adjourned at 2:55 p.m.
