Present: Council members: Mary Brennan, Susan Day (recording), Beth Erhart, Alberto Giordano, Ken Grasso, Nancy Grayson, Craig Hanks, Lucy Harney, Bill Kelemen, Chad Smith

Absent: Audwin Anderson, Britt Bousman, Dennis Dunn, Dan Lochman


The minutes of 3.1.17 were approved without discussion.


The following issues were discussed.


Curriculum considerations

                Proposed program changes in the MFA degree in the Department of English related to the admissions process and to elective courses were approved unanimously. 

                A proposed program change in the MA in Philosophy related to elective courses was approved unanimously.


Library check-out policy

A recent change to the library book borrowing policy allows faculty members to check out a book for 182 days with 3 renewals ( Modern Language faculty members object to this new policy and their representative will ask the Library Committee for a rationale.  The request may be made to the Faculty Senate as well.


Library allocation formulas

                Some LA departments fear they will be hurt by the new library formula.  More information will be sought by the Council of Chairs to examine the consequences of the new policy.


Curricular proposal

                Dean Hennessy gathered ideas from COLA chairs and directors about a potential curriculum proposal.


Issues related to the Testing Center

Dr. Gail Ryser and Michelle Weaver met with the Council to discuss ATSD policies. 


CAD items

  • Graduate student appreciation week will be April 2-8.  Chairs and directors were asked to announce the event to faculty and graduate students.
  • Dean Dann Brown will address summer orientation session enrollment needs in a future LAC meeting.  Chairs were encouraged to have sufficient seats to accommodate future students and to look at the number of seats available on May 1, 2017.
  • QEP ideas will be received until April 7.  Dr. Harney has a proposal that she will circulate to LAC.
  • Foreign travel applications require adequate description about the purpose of the travel in the comment section.   Foreign travel applications should be submitted by the deadline.

                Bobcat Day is Saturday, April 1, 2017.

                Chairs were encouraged to offer program change forms related to curriculum issues cited by Dean Golato.
